dream intruders
Hi, I wondered if anyone on the forum knows about protecting your sleep. I am having big trouble with something interfering with my dreams. It is much more vivid than a nightmare. I can feel a presence and sometimes I can literally see it (it likes manifesting as a human or leaving notices on walls). When it happens, the intruder is in control, not me, and my dream-self does things that are out of character for me, and some of them are against my personal ethical code. I am worried that it will make me open to doing those things in the waking world, that it is a real part of me trying to get out, or that I will hurt or offend one of my regular dream-inhabitants. For those of you who have played NiGHTs Into Dreams, it is probably a Nightmaren, but actually playing NiGHTs mostly makes it worse. The ways I've found to fight it are not to let myself or my room get too warm at night (the intruder loves warmth for some reason), to avoid alcohol and other things that loosen self-control, and to imagine a person to protect me before I go to sleep. There must be a way to do it that doesn't involve so much time setting things up before going to sleep. Its starting to detract from my actual sleep, and I have naps, so I can't let my guard down in the day. It never works permanently, it can wait a long time for me to slip up. | 12:16 am [effrenata]

Intro: Factio Effrenata (Plural System & Human Host) Just started using this journal again, so decided to fill this out. If you don't know what a "plural system" is, please check out lj-comm "Multiplicity".
Real/Given Name: K. R. Turk (Earth self). The rest of us is Named by an equation, not a word. Craft Name (Optional): Illa Factio Effrenata (The Anarchic Party); also the human-language (Latin) name of this plural system. The World[s] You Live in: Willowick, OH, US, Earth; & The Pantisocracy of the Framework & of Many Realities. Specific Path: Modern PanDeistic Suitheism. Patron Deity (if any): Ourself. Religious/Spiritual Background: My Earth self (nickname "Myrna") was born to Catholic family, memetically virused by a fundamentalist parent; voluntarily established confluence & coidentity with the extradimensional plural entity Effrenata, which originated in an alternate reality continuum which we call the Conglomeration, a sort of totalitarian entity/machine/society from which we broke free, taking with us a copy of its source code. ("Yeah, we downloaded Big Brother Itself. Whatever was This Party thinking of? Probably something like 'Look, no hands!'") Type of Pagan Practice: Eclectic, Dark New Age, Conscious Reality Creation. Types of Divination Practiced: Tarot, remote viewing (or as we prefer to term it, "nonlocal accessing"). Element:: Information/Energy: the medium & message conjoined. Sacred Tree(s): Binary. Sacred Stone(s): Reinforced concrete. Spirit Animal(s)/Familiar(s): illa Varia Effrena, the Random Variables. Yeah, this party mangles & misuses dead languages, too. They're dead already, so who cares? Current Mood: indescribable | | Friday, January 20th, 2012 | 4:28 am [mindszenty]

Long, long ago, probably somewhere near 2004, I came across a some site describing, among other things, personal system of symbolism based on the ascii chart. I suspect the link to it was posted here, so I checked the whole 2004 archive, but to no avail. Still, if any of old-timers here remember something similar, I would be glad to know :) | | Thursday, August 11th, 2011 | 6:23 pm [ext_742525]

Googlemancy
Ok, today I was feeling a bit stressed and distressed just in general. I tried to use twittermancy to find an answer, but it didn't really work so well, so I switched to Googlemancy. I decided to do the 23rd page, 5 entry route, instead of the "I'm feeling lucky" route. My first question was about my relationship with money and my concerns there. I ended up at the livejournal of some crazy kid who I THINK is devoutly religious, but he's got some WACKY views that just made me go "o.O Oh......kay." Back to Google. I went "Ok, I get the point. Money isn't everything." I ended up at a Plenty of Fish forum (I didn't even know PoF HAD fucking forums!) where one of the guys was asking if money was more important to women than looks or personality. Message received. My next question was, "Well, what should I be focusing on NOW?" My response was a blog post on a separate website entitled, I kid you not, "Life is Hard--Focus on Happiness." So, it seems to me that Googlemancy is a much better divination tool when you have an open-ended question or are personally unfocused. Twittermancy seems better when you know exactly what you're asking about and all the angle you want to ask about. | | Saturday, June 4th, 2011 | 12:43 pm [pfmoi]

Twittermancy Reading
Someone gave me a link to Twittermancy when I made my first post here. I was having some worries and doubts and twittermancy was right there, so I decided to use it. I don't know how most of you use it, but for me, picking a word that typifies what you're asking about works really nicely. I'm worried about a friend of mine, that someone might be taking her for a ride, so I asked twittermancy. I used "deceiver" for the person I think is taking her for a ride, "deceived" for her, "suspicious" to represent myself, and then "silence" and a couple other words I can't remember for possible avenues of action. Finally, I used "surrender" to ask if that's what I should do, based on the answers I'd gotten and "gratitude" as a thank-you for the advice. Anyway, since it's my first real use of twittermancy, I thought I'd share. | | Sunday, May 29th, 2011 | 8:43 am [pfmoi]

Hello Post
Hi, I just found this group and I'm very interested in learning more about technopaganism, but I have no idea where to begin. Unfortunately, I'm in a place where I can't afford books at the moment, so if you have any links to helpful information, I'd really appreciate you posting them. Thanks. | | Tuesday, July 20th, 2010 | 5:40 am [davidkevin]

An Academic Request
I hope posts of this nature are allowed. I didn't see anything against them in the rules, but if I'm in the wrong, let me know and I'll remove the post. I'm looking for help with an academic paper. My roommate is a graduate student, pursuing her Masters Degree in Folklore. (Please don't be misled by the term 'folklore' into thinking that your beliefs will be looked at as fiction or myth; both my roommate and I identify as Neo-Pagan, and folklore as a discipline focuses on the shared experiences of people.) She is writing a paper for her Narratives class about the conversion narratives of modern Pagans. I had wondered if any of you who converted to a Pagan path from another religious tradition had written about it in your blogs, and if so, if you would be willing to have her use your words and experiences in her paper. (It doesn't have to be a single blog post of "this is how I became a Pagan." Posts written over a period of time as your beliefs evolved are in fact very helpful.) And if any of you have ever written an essay, for either personal or academic use, about your conversion experience, if you would be willing to allow her to view and use a copy, it would be especially fantastic. Because of the class subject, she has to focus entirely on written forms of narratives, so she won't be able to conduct actual interviews, but if any of you have material in your blogs or previously written essays that you would be willing to let her use, she and I would both be grateful. If you're willing, please leave a comment here (preferably with a time range in which we should look in your archives for the conversion story). If you would prefer to contact me privately about it, my AIM is LiviyaLovesYou and my e-mail is liviyalovesyou (at) aim (dot) com. "...paganism and witchcraft were never intended to receive the protections of the Religion Clauses"
"In one of their first arguments to the court, the defendants said that certain “traditional” faiths are first tier faiths and that those faiths were meant to have equal rights and protections under the United States Constitution, but that all of the other faiths were second tier faiths, and were not meant to have the same equal rights and protections under the United States Constitution as the first tier faiths.” Via Patrick M. McCollum; et al., v. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation; et al.: The current case, which has been in litigation for five years, and is currently before the 9th Circuit, centers on the State of California’s “five faiths” policy. Azoth
I'm trying to find out all I can on 'Azoth' as a term, ideology, ect. I understand the word as it is used in alchemy and know the illustration of the 7 pointed star in Basil Valentine's Azoth of the Philosophers, but I can find almost NO information on the book itself or any copy of it. I know of Azothoth/Azotharoth in the Cthulhu mythos, but it is my understanding that the name Azoth is a latter addition to the mythos by Gerry Conway, Roy Thomas, and Mike Docherty in the 1980s as a screen play that later became a storyarch for the Conan comics. Can anyone give me any more information or a push in the right direction to into finding some more information? | | Sunday, September 27th, 2009 | 3:59 pm [rob_t_firefly]

Twittermancy
There's a neat story on Witchvox today by someone who has made a tool called Twittermancy, which uses the massive pool of Twitter postings as a seed for random-text-based divination. It's quite fun to zone out and play with. The article also goes a bit further into things like the parallels between the Open-Source development community and the Technopagan outlook. A pretty good read IMO. What do you folks think? | | Thursday, July 30th, 2009 | 7:01 pm [tyrsalvia]

language policy for posts
Hello technopaganism folks. I'm one of your community maintainers. We've recently had some posts in Russian here, and I wanted to clarify community policy on that. Posts in languages other than English are welcome, provided there's a short one or two sentence summary in English so I know it's community appropriate. Sorry to request that, but I'd really like to keep this community on topic and free of spam and the maintainers here are English speakers. Posts that don't follow this guideline will be deleted with the assumption that they are spam. | | Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 | 12:55 pm [wibbble]

Twittermancy
I've made a small web application to aid in scrying. Similar in idea to 'Googlemancy', it uses Twitter search results to generate a 'tag cloud' style jumble of words, which you can interpret as you see fit. I'm really interested in feedback - please let me know what you think, and if you've any ideas for how it can be improved. http://twittermancy.com Current Mood: hungry | | Wednesday, July 8th, 2009 | 11:52 am [kobarot]

Does this widget exist?
I run Kubuntu 9.04, and while I know there's a nifty little taskbar applet that will tell you what phase the moon is in, I'm also interested in what astrological sign it's in. Does anyone know of a KDE 4 applet (or at least, an applet that will run in KDE 4) that will do this? I know there are websites I can check, but still. =P I suppose if it doesn't, I'll have to figure out how to make it myself. | | Monday, July 6th, 2009 | 5:37 pm [tyrsalvia]

note on community postings
This is a note from one of your friendly community moderators. I will delete any posts in this community that do not have comments enabled. Also, while this community welcomes posts not in English, it would be really appreciated if posts in other languages could include an English summary (if nothing else, so I know you're not spam). Thanks. As you were. | | Sunday, May 17th, 2009 | 4:53 am [freedom_anarchy]

Dreaming of Gates and Doorways This is a cross-post from my Journal, and mostly unedited. I have been given to somewhat abstract thoughts of late, far removed from my usual areas of occult research. This shift was brought about by a number of seemingly desperate factors, works of horror fiction, old email conversations regarding the nature of our multidimensional reality and numerous hours curled up in front of the T.V. while my internet connection was down. The premiss that I have been turning over in my mind is seemingly simple, if unrooted in fact and unprovable at best. It is a magickal wild goose chase similar in its unobtainability to the medieval alchemist's search for the philosopher's stone. But it has nevertheless piqued my interest, and I am giving over a little of my time to discussing something which is so undeniably unresearchable in its current form, yet which whispers softly at the edges of my perception even now, tantalising my senses with infinite possibilities. Sympathetic Magic
So I just got my driver's license renewed and now I can't help think that someone could use my old license for sympathetic magic against me. I'm not paranoid about it, just a thought that popped in my head. This idea extended to credit cards and business cards, heck, any piece of plastic or paper that you carry around all day. I've had my Social Security card in my wallet since I was 12. It even has my "unique" government identifier on it. It's probably the one thing with which I have the most sympathy, aside from my magical tools, but those required a conscious effort to attune with. The SS card just hangs around all the time. Has anyone had any experience with this? (X-posted to my journal) |
